PT-141 is another name commonly used for bremelanotide, a melanocortin receptor agonist.
Who is FDA-approved bremelanotide for?
Premenopausal women with acquired, generalized HSDD that causes marked distress or interpersonal difficulty and is not explained by another condition, relationship problem, or drug.
Can PT-141 be prescribed to men?
Bremelanotide/PT-141 has been studied in men, including clinical trials evaluating erectile response in men with erectile dysfunction. However, bremelanotide is not FDA-approved for men. A clinician must determine whether treatment is appropriate based on the individual patient and the specific formulation being prescribed.
How is PT-141 used?
The labeled dose is a 1.75 mg subcutaneous autoinjector used at least 45 minutes before anticipated sexual activity, with dosing limits. A compounded PT-141 prescription may have different instructions and should not copy that schedule automatically.
